Our Work

Emergency Funding

When someone is at immediate risk, we seek funding from third parties on their behalf covering the urgent, practical costs that stand between a person and safety: travel documents, legal fees, emergency accommodation, and the bureaucratic costs of accessing legal channels when everything is moving fast. We exist because the gap between danger and safety is often not legal — it is financial. We close that gap.

Safe Pathways Assistance

Safety is not a destination. It is a process, and for most of the people we support, it is a long one. JSI manages end-to-end support for Afghan legal professionals and their families. Our network of four global law firms and volunteers interview applicants, assess their individual risk profiles, and prepare family applications for referral to humanitarian pathways.

Every case is handled at no cost to the client. We have supported resettlement to different countries — always assessing which pathways are open, which are moving, and where a family stands the best chance of building a future.

Safe Pathways Database Project

In partnership with Asylex, and with the support of pro bono volunteers, JSI is developing a practical database mapping available safe and legal pathways. The database will help identify routes such as UNHCR resettlement and pathways based on needs, sponsorship, qualifications and rights, with the aim of making complex and fragmented information more accessible to people seeking safety.

Education

Displacement ends a chapter. It does not have to end a career. Many of the legal professionals we support spent years, sometimes decades, building legal skills and expertise in domestic and international law. That expertise does not disappear when they cross a border.

JSI is expanding its work to help those at risk and those already resettled understand how to continue their legal careers after displacement: how to have qualifications recognised, how to access retraining, and how to rebuild professional networks in a new country. We believe that empowering people to continue their professional lives is not a secondary concern, it is part of what protection means.

JSI is a member of the Alliance for the Education of Women in Afghanistan and a registered CPB provider.
